2-11 Alarm fire in Chicago, 1-17-23

Excerpts from abc7chicago.com: The Chicago Fire Department (CFD) responded to a significant fire at a one-story commercial warehouse on the West Side of Chicago on Tuesday morning. The blaze occurred in a building located on the 4500-block of West Fulton Street, and it was classified as an extra-alarm incident. The fire burned intensely for over an hour, with CFD reporting that it had been "struck" around 7:45 a.m. More than 100 firefighters were deployed to the scene. Fortunately, no one was inside the building at the time, and no injuries were reported. Despite the intensity of the fire, the structure remained contained within the warehouse, and no neighboring buildings were affected. The warehouse suffered substantial damage, including the collapse of its roof. According to the building’s tenant, who was present at the scene, the business previously operating inside was called American Masonry and Supply. Fire officials are still investigating the cause of the fire, and no official determination has been made yet. A series of updates from CFD Media on Twitter provided additional details about the incident. The initial call came in as an "S & B Alarm" at 4537 W. Fulton, describing a one-story building measuring 75 by 75 feet with fire through the roof. Firefighters began a defensive attack, and no one was injured or transported. By 7:02 a.m., the alarm was upgraded to a 2-11, with the corrected address at 4550 W. Fulton. A masonry company was reportedly based there. At that point, three master streams and two handlines were actively combating the fire, which was described as being under control. All units were still working on the scene, and rehab efforts were underway. Later updates indicated that the fire had been "struck out" by orders of 2-11, but crews continued their work. Media coverage was set up near the intersection of Fulton and Kenton streets. As of now, the investigation into the cause of the fire is ongoing, and more details are expected in the coming days.
