From Chi-Town Fire Photos:
I was on scene yesterday around 3:30 AM at 500 W. 26th Street. The fire was in a 3-story wood-frame building measuring approximately 100x150 feet. The first-arriving companies tried an interior attack but had difficulty locating the fire's origin. As a result, they shifted to an exterior defensive operation. At the height of the incident, five handlines, multiple portable ground monitors, Squad 1, AT8, TL5, and TL10 were all deployed in an effort to control the blaze. I arrived about 45 minutes into the response. At that point, Engines 8 and 29, along with Trucks 4 and 8, were still working the scene.

It was a tough call—fire spread quickly through the structure, and visibility was poor inside. The crews worked hard to contain it from the outside, using a lot of water and keeping a close eye on the roof for any signs of collapse. I've seen a few similar incidents before, but this one stood out because of how fast things escalated. It’s always a reminder of how critical it is to have the right resources on scene early. If you're ever near 26th Street, keep an eye out for that building—it’s definitely got a story or two to tell.
