Last night, we officially received and put into service a brand-new set of extrication tools from AMKUS Rescue Systems. These tools are replacing our old equipment, which has been in use for over 30 years. The new tools are powered by DEWALT batteries instead of hydraulics, offering faster deployment, quicker operation, greater mobility, fewer points of failure, and reduced maintenance needs. Alongside these new extrication tools, we also introduced a new set of DEWALT power tools to our fleet. In addition, we were able to acquire a third extrication tool from AMKUS, commonly known as a "combi tool," which will be stationed on our front-line engine.
Did you know that vehicle construction and safety have advanced significantly over the past three decades? Modern vehicles are built with ultra-high-strength metals, making them more durable and safer in collisions. This means that people today have a better chance of surviving accidents with fewer injuries. However, these stronger materials also make it harder for older equipment to cut through them effectively. That’s why our outdated tools might not have been sufficient in a real emergency, potentially delaying rescue efforts.ÂWe want to extend our sincere thanks to Mayor Tom Brown and the Village of East Hazel Crest Board of Trustees for approving the purchase of these essential tools—commonly referred to as spreaders and cutters. We’d also like to thank Tom from Dinges Fire Company for his support in the purchase, training, delivery, and ongoing maintenance of these life-saving tools.ÂLastly, but certainly not least, we want to express our deep gratitude to every resident, local business, and visitor who has supported us this year—whether by attending our events or making donations. It was your generosity that made it possible for us to purchase the third extrication tool and the new DEWALT power tools. With these cutting-edge tools from AMKUS, powered by DEWALT batteries, and our updated power tools, we are now better equipped than ever to respond to any emergency and save lives.
