Firefighters deal with the cold weather

This message is from Eric Haak: I responded to three fires on Wednesday and arrived late at all of them. I thought it would be a good idea to share a few photos from each fire as a tribute to all the first responders who have to work in such tough conditions. The first image shows the front of a building on the 1500 block of Kostner that was completely covered in soot, which tells me the fire must have been pretty intense. In the third photo, you can see a dog being rescued from the scene — a heartening moment amid the chaos. The third and fourth images were taken at another structure on the 9100 block of South Crandon, also a still-and-box style building. These types of structures can be especially dangerous because they’re often older and more vulnerable to rapid fire spread. The last photo captures Engine 38 on the 1400 block of South Ridgeway, where they had their second call of the day. It's always impressive to see how quickly these crews move and how dedicated they are, even when the weather is brutal and the conditions are challenging. These pictures give just a small glimpse into the hard work and bravery of the firefighters who put their lives on the line every day.
