From the Blue Island Historical Society's Facebook page, I came across this exciting update. The new Fire Department Museum will be located just across the street from the fire station on Vermont Street. It’s always great to see local history being preserved and celebrated. Feel free to leave a comment and share your thoughts. – Mike Summa
The Blue Island Fire Department Museum was first imagined by local resident Joe Dinovo and is now supported by the City of Blue Island, the family of Matthew O’Callaghan, the Blue Island Historical Society, and many other volunteers and donors. The museum aims to educate the public about the rich history of our fire department, as well as promote fire safety and prevention. One of the most impressive features will be the display of Old Bess, a 1925 Seagrave fire engine that was originally purchased brand-new by the city. This iconic piece of history is sure to draw visitors from near and far.
The preliminary design was created by Ken Jellema, a local artist and long-time supporter of community projects. While the final look may change slightly before construction begins, the current vision has already generated a lot of excitement. These kinds of projects take time, but with the strong support of our community, we're confident that this dream will become a reality soon.
If you'd like to help bring this project and others to life, consider becoming a member of the Blue Island Historical Society. Your support makes a real difference in preserving our local heritage.
