From the Blue Island Historical Society's Facebook page, I came across this exciting update. The new Fire Department Museum will be located just across the street from the fire station on Vermont Street. Be sure to check it out and share your thoughts! – Mike Summa

The Blue Island Fire Department Museum was first imagined by local resident Joe Dinovo and is now being supported by the City of Blue Island, the O’Callaghan family, the Blue Island Historical Society, and many other volunteers and donors. The goal of the museum is to educate the public about the history of our fire department, as well as promote fire safety and prevention. One of the most impressive pieces the museum will feature is "Old Bess," a 1925 Seagrave fire engine that was originally purchased brand-new by the city of Blue Island.
A preliminary rendering of the museum was created by Ken Jellema, a local artist and designer who has also contributed to other community projects. While the final design may see some tweaks before construction begins, we are thrilled with how far the project has come so far.
These kinds of projects take time—years, in fact—but with the strong support from our community, we're confident that the dream will soon become a reality. If you'd like to help bring these visions to life, consider becoming a member of the Blue Island Historical Society today.
