The Carol Stream Fire District, located in Dupage County (Division 12), operates three fire stations. The department is equipped with one engine company, one two-piece squad company, one tower ladder, three ambulances, and a battalion chief. Their fleet includes two E-ONE engines, an E-ONE tower ladder, an Alexis engine, and an Alexis heavy rescue. All of their ambulances are built on IHC chassis by Life Line, ensuring modern and reliable emergency response.
The headquarters station, located at 35 N. Kuhn Road, serves as the central hub for the district. It features four drive-through bays, administrative offices, and a full training facility that includes a burn tower. In addition to regular apparatus, the station houses a spare ambulance, an OEM Mobile Command Unit, a spare engine, and two antique fire trucks. These historical vehicles add a unique touch to the station’s operations and serve as a reminder of the district's long-standing commitment to public safety.
The district's website offers a detailed history of the department, including the legacy of the Keeneyville Fire Protection District and the Carol Stream Company. For many years, their fire apparatus was painted black over yellow, but in 1996, the color scheme was updated to red, giving the department a more distinct and recognizable appearance.
Station 3, located at 1045 Lies Road, is home to the two-piece squad company. The first unit, Squad 235, is a 2006 Spartan Gladiator Classic/Alexis 1500/750 pumper squad. The second unit, Rescue 235, is a brand new 2010 Spartan Metro Star Alexis HDR technical rescue unit. Together, they form a highly specialized team capable of handling a wide range of emergency situations.
Rescue 235 is designed with a stubby, two-door Metro Star cab and is fully equipped with advanced technical rescue tools. The truck is packed with essential equipment on both sides, making it ideal for complex extrication tasks. Squad 235 carries the hydraulic rescue tools used for auto extrications, while Rescue 235 has supplemental equipment, an air cascade system, and a large supply of TRT materials.
The rear of Rescue 235 features a unique design, with a ramp-style door that allows access to a large storage area in the center of the unit. A folding ladder at the back provides access to the top storage compartments, ensuring that all necessary equipment is easily reachable during emergencies. This thoughtful design enhances the efficiency and effectiveness of the technical rescue team.
