Flyability launches Inspector 3.0

April 20, 2021 – Flyability has introduced a groundbreaking software called Inspector 3.0, designed to help inspectors quickly and accurately identify the location of defects found during inspections.

Flyability, a pioneer in remote internal inspection solutions, is proud to announce the release of Inspector 3.0, a new tool that enables inspectors to precisely locate defects found using the Elios 2 drone. After a successful beta phase involving over 150 users, the software is now available for all Elios 2 users worldwide.

"Inspector 3.0 marks a major step forward in our mission to eliminate the need for humans to enter dangerous or confined spaces," said Patrick Thévoz, CEO of Flyability. "Being able to pinpoint exactly where an issue is located within an asset improves efficiency and delivers more value to our clients."

Traditional manual inspections often allow inspectors to know the exact location of a defect because they are physically present at the site. However, with the use of advanced Remote Visual Inspection (RVI) tools like the Elios 2, localization becomes more complex due to the absence of indoor GPS systems.

Without built-in location data, inspectors typically rely on a mix of barometric readings, blueprints, maps, and visual references—making the process time-consuming and error-prone. Now, Inspector 3.0 changes the game by enabling inspectors to generate a sparse point cloud directly from the data collected by the Elios 2, showing them exactly where each defect is located within the asset.

"We often know there's damage inside an asset, but not exactly where it is," said Simon Kumm, Confined Space Inspections Expert at InspecDrone GmbH. "Inspector 3.0 solves this problem effectively."

Accurate location data is essential in maintenance operations. For example, when repairing a pipe in a wastewater system, digging the wrong spot can lead to wasted time and resources. The right data ensures precision and efficiency.

It also helps align teams involved in maintenance. Scaffolders need to know where to set up, and repair crews must understand the spatial layout of the asset before starting work. Inspector 3.0 makes this coordination much smoother.

"The localization feature of Inspector 3.0 was exactly what we needed," said Thibault Chatillon, Innovation and Development Manager at Setec. "My customers have been asking for this for a long time. Now, I can show them exactly where the issue is."
