MVA with fire in Prospect Heights, 5-1-21

At 05:07 on Saturday, May 1, Prospect Heights Fire Department Chief Drew Smith released an update regarding a multi-vehicle accident that occurred on eastbound Palatine Road near Wolf. The incident involved a minivan on fire, along with at least two other vehicles. Units from Prospect Heights and Wheeling Fire Companies were dispatched to the scene for extrication. The crash took place just east of the Canadian National railroad bridge, and while no one was hospitalized despite the significant damage to the vehicles, emergency responders were on high alert. A Superior ambulance was also on the scene, as it could not pass through due to the traffic blockage. According to reports, the ambulance crew had already begun triaging patients before the fire departments arrived. This incident highlights the importance of quick response times and coordination between emergency services. Fortunately, no serious injuries were reported, though the situation remained tense for several minutes. Local residents were advised to avoid the area as crews worked to clear the road and secure the scene.
