Excerpts from ChicagoTribune.com:
Last Saturday, residents had the opportunity to tour the brand-new fire station in Pingree Grove and Countryside, as firefighters opened the doors for a special event. Located at 1600 Reinking Road, this state-of-the-art facility is a major upgrade from the old station that was over 50 years old. The new building spans 12,700 square feet and cost $3.7 million to build. It features a 24-hour lobby, a community room available for public or non-profit use, a decontamination area, a house tower, a fitness center, a kitchen, a recreation room, and sleeping quarters for staff.
"We wanted the community to know we're here and ready to serve," said Lieutenant Scott Fehrman, a 33-year veteran of the district. "This new station is a big step forward for us."
The Pingree Grove and Countryside Fire Protection District covers unincorporated areas of Kane County, including parts of Plato Township, Rutland, Campton, and Elgin Townships. The new station replaces Fire House #2, which was located at Route 20 and Reinking Road. That old facility was outdated, only had space for vehicles, and lacked basic amenities like a kitchen or sleeping areas. Originally run by volunteers, it wasn’t equipped to handle the growing needs of the community.
The need for a new station became more urgent after the 2005 opening of the Cambridge Lakes Subdivision and the arrival of Carillon, a gated retirement community, two years later, according to Fehrman. These developments led to an increase in emergency calls, highlighting the importance of modernizing the district’s response capabilities.
About a decade ago, the district started setting aside funds each year for the new station, and Trustee Todd Harris confirmed that the project is now fully funded. Fire Station #3 will offer a range of community services, including CPR classes, free blood pressure screenings, and the Knox Box Rapid Entry System. This system allows firefighters to access homes quickly using a secure key box installed on the property, without causing damage. Only authorized personnel have access to these boxes.
Harris also shared some historical context about the district. In 1936, the area was served by a volunteer fire department, where firefighters would receive calls at home and then go to the station to get their gear before heading to emergencies. It took anywhere from 8 to 15 minutes to arrive at the scene. The official formation of the Pingree Grove and Countryside Fire Protection District came in 1957, with ambulance service added in 1975. Today, the district operates two stations — the new one and another at Plank Road and Route 20 — each staffed with three firefighter EMTs. Unlike the past, today’s firefighters can respond within minutes.

Trough mixer is used to mix powdery or paste-like materials to mix different materials. It is characterized by a horizontal trough-shaped single-blade mixing, and the stirring paddle is a through-shaft type for easy cleaning. The contact with the object is made of stainless steel, which has good corrosion resistance, and the mixing tank can automatically flip the material.
