Researchers at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology's Department of Mechanical Engineering have created a material that can effectively convert solar energy into steam. It uses only one percent of the energy of traditional solar generators to achieve the same effect. According to the research results, the material can convert 85% of energy capture from the sun into steam.
The specific method is to cover a piece of carbon foam floating on the surface of the water. When exposed to heat from the sun, carbon foam floats on the surface, evaporating the water through the pores of the material. This new technology may be applied to the energy field in the future.
