The first set of geosteering drilling systems in China passed the appraisal

"This system is like a space missile, which allows the drill bit to accurately drill toward the target layer." On November 27th, Su Yi, the academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and the vice president of the Drilling Engineering Technology Research Institute, talked about CGDS-I. The above evaluation is made when the drill bit is geosteering the drilling system.

In mid-November, China's first "CGDS-I near-bit geosteering drilling system" with independent intellectual property rights passed the product appraisal organized by the Science and Technology Development Department of CNPC. The members of the expert group agreed that this system has filled the domestic gap in the application of basic theoretical research and a number of individual technologies, and has obtained five invention patents and three utility model patents. Its successful development is a major breakthrough in China's oil and gas drilling technology, and will provide important technical support for China's oil and gas exploration and development, which is the first in China and reaches the international advanced level. The members of the expert group unanimously agreed to pass the appraisal and recommended mass production to expand the scale of application.

CGDS-I near-bit geosteering drilling system is a new technology that combines drilling, logging and reservoir engineering technology to form engineering and geological parameter measurement and guiding function in the process of drilling. It is aptly called “putting the eye for the drill bit and allowing the drill bit to drill accurately”. The international petroleum engineering industry recognizes this technology as the highest end of the 21st century drilling technology and an important indicator for measuring the level of drilling technology in a country. Since the birth of the world's first geosteering drilling system in 1993, only a handful of technical service companies in the world have mastered this technology, and only provide high-priced services without selling products to obtain huge profits.

In view of the urgent need of China's oil and gas industry for this technology, as soon as possible to break the situation of being controlled by people, CNPC decided to establish a project in 1999, and organized the Drilling Engineering Technology Research Institute, Beijing Petroleum Machinery Plant and China Petroleum Logging Co., Ltd. to jointly tackle the problem. After 7 years of research, it was finally developed and produced. This technology not only fills the gap in domestic oil and gas drilling technology, but also makes China the third country in the world to have this technology. CNPC is the fourth company to own this technology.
