Box alarm fire in Lake Forest, 2-23-17

Lake Forest firefighters responded to a reported smoke in the basement of a residential property at 81 W. North Avenue on Thursday morning, February 23, 2017. The home was under renovation at the time, and upon arrival, emergency crews observed black smoke coming from the lower level. As conditions worsened and parts of the first floor became unstable, the incident was escalated to a Box Alarm. Firefighters worked quickly to contain the blaze, and shortly after, the fire was brought under control. The incident commander then began to disperse units as the situation stabilized. Despite the damage, no injuries were reported, and the cause of the fire is currently under investigation. Several photos captured the aftermath of the fire, showing the extent of the damage and the efforts of first responders. Steve Redick, a local photographer, shared his experience covering the scene: "I happened to be in the area, which is a long way from my usual beat. The fire was already well underway, but I got to see and photograph several fire trucks that I don’t often encounter." Among the units seen at the scene were engines from Lincolnshire-Riverwoods, Lake Bluff, Countryside, Deerfield-Bannockburn, and Lake Forest Fire Departments, along with a unique bulldog mascot on one of the rigs. Additional shots included a quint from Knollwood FD and a squad truck from Highland Park FD. All images were captured by Steve Redick.
