The common failure modes of diesel generator engine parts generally include wear, deformation, fatigue fracture and corrosion. The wear is generally classified into four categories based on their surface failure mechanisms and characteristics: abrasive wear, adhesive wear, surface fatigue wear and corrosion wear.
A, abrasive wear
The phenomenon of surface material loss caused by friction between the surface of the object and the abrasive is called abrasive wear. Abrasive wear is a kind of mechanical wear, and it is very common and harmful. According to relevant statistics, abrasive wear accounts for more than 50% of total wear. When the unit is supplied power in a field site, due to the poor working conditions, it is often in direct contact with mud sand, ore and ash, etc., which can produce different forms of abrasive wear.
Abrasive wear is the result of mechanical action of the abrasive particles. It is related to the relative hardness, shape, size of the abrasive, and the mechanical properties of the abrasive and the surface being grinded under load. The sources of abrasives are dust from outside, chip intrusion, fluid entrainment, surface wear products, hard spots on the surface of the material, and inclusions. Abrasive wear includes two situations: The first is the wear of a rough metal surface sliding on a relatively soft metal surface; the second is the wear caused by a hard abrasive on the surface of a hard metal when the soft metal is rubbed. , Such as bearings and bearings, cylinder wear. Reducing abrasive wear generally takes measures in two ways: first, to prevent or reduce abrasive particles from entering the friction surface; and second, to enhance the wear resistance of the part.

Second, adhesive wear
When the friction surface is in relative operation, friction will locally generate a large amount of heat, causing the temperature to rise sharply, causing the surface metal to melt. As the heat is continuously transmitted to the surroundings, the temperature of the surface of the component will gradually decrease to produce welding cooperation. In subsequent movements, they are torn apart, causing the contact surface material to be transferred from one surface to another. This phenomenon is called adhesive wear, such as holding the cylinder, pulling the cylinder, etc.
Third, the surface fatigue wear
When the two contact surfaces perform rolling or rolling sliding composite friction, the surface contact fatigue causes the surface of the material to fatigue and generate minute cracks. With the crack propagation, due to the high pressure of lubricating oil in the cracks, the phenomenon of spot-like material wear occurs, which is called surface fatigue wear. If the bearing surface wears, the gear surface wears.
Fourth, abrasion wear
During the friction process, the metal reacts chemically or electrochemically with the surrounding medium. Corrosion wear causes a loss of material on the surface due to a combination of corrosion and wear. Corrosion wear is a mechanochemical wear. The purely abrasive phenomenon cannot be defined as corrosion wear. It can only be formed when the corrosion phenomenon is combined with the mechanical wear process. Corrosion wear is different from the above-mentioned three wear mechanisms. It is an extremely complex wear process that often occurs in high-temperature or humid environments, and is more likely to occur in special media such as acids, alkalis, and salts.
Due to the nature of the medium, the state of the medium on the friction surface, and the performance of the friction material, the state of the friction surface is also different, so the corrosion wear is often divided into oxidation wear, special medium corrosion wear and fretting corrosion wear.
