As of December last year, the Jiading Demonstration Zone EV test drive center has introduced 21 brands, 27 models and 52 electric vehicles from home and abroad to participate in demonstrations, and received a total of 87,000 visitors. The general public does not have a good understanding of pure electric vehicles, and the number of people who experience test driving is still relatively small.

Up to now, the company has achieved sales of 333 new energy vehicles, mainly after a period of time after the introduction of local subsidy policies in Shanghai. During the period, the Shanghai-made pure electric vehicles went public and the free Shanghai brand policy was released, attracting many consumers to “try new” green cars. However, with the changes in the relevant subsidy policies last year, the number of newly-added electric cars in Shanghai was small, and the market generally held a wait-and-see attitude.

When private purchases are cold, Shanghai is trying to “curve out” the channels from the leasing and public domain applications. In April last year, "a car rental" established the first electric car rental store in Shanghai. In June, Shanghai International Automobile City New Energy Automobile Operation Service Co., Ltd. was established and approved by the Municipal Bureau of Port and Harbor, obtaining 100 electric vehicle rental licenses in advance and 72 electric vehicles leased. In December last year, a new model for the time-sharing of 10 electric vehicles in the Jiading campus of Tongji University was explored. At present, some agencies and units in Jiading District have tried to use pure electric vehicles as official vehicles. On the basis of perfection, the next step Shanghai plans to select pilot districts and counties, and implement large-scale public transportation in public transport, postal services, and sanitation. The government-led promotion is speeding up and the marketization of pure electric vehicles is even more urgently needed to break the ice. Rong Wenwei, general manager of Shanghai International Automobile City, believes that although the government subsidy policy adjustment will have a certain impact on the sales of pure electric vehicles, the biggest problem currently lies in the lack of good products. Low-end models do not have enough attraction for consumers.

Recently, the electric vehicle industry in overseas markets has been developing rapidly. Automobile companies in Europe, America, and Japan have invested heavily in R&D and vehicle development of pure electric vehicles. This year, General Motors’s Walter, Nissan’s leaf, and Tesla’s MODELS were introduced. Three pure electric vehicles are sold worldwide. In contrast, the domestic industry, in addition to individual car companies, most companies did not really invest in R & D and marketing of new energy vehicles. People in the automotive industry believe that the reason why domestic car companies cannot make hot-selling products is not technology backwardness, but the lack of independent research and development capabilities of high-end cars. If pure electric products still take the low-cost model, it is difficult to develop high-end models that meet current consumption trends of new energy vehicles.
