China's demand for polyacrylamide soared in 2010

It is estimated that by 2010 China's total demand for polyacrylamide will reach 400,000 tons. Among them, the proportion of consumption in the oil field will decrease, and the proportion of consumption in the water treatment and papermaking areas will increase.

Before the 1990s, China's production and consumption of polyacrylamide had been relatively stable due to technology, market and other reasons. Later, with the promotion and application of the petroleum industry, the production capacity and output of polyacrylamide increased continuously. In 2002, the production capacity and output of polyacrylamide in China were 200,000 tons/year and 150,000 tons respectively; in 2006, the production capacity and output increased to 500,000 tons/year and 320,000 tons respectively.

Although the production of polyacrylamide in China is very large, the quality of polyacrylamide used in papermaking cannot meet the requirements of domestic paper mills. Therefore, every year domestic paper mills need to import large amounts of polyacrylamide from Taiwan, Japan and other countries and regions. With the continuous increase of paper and board production, the import volume of polyacrylamide has been increasing year by year. From 2002 to 2006, the average annual growth rate of China's polyacrylamide imports was about 15%. In 2006, the import volume reached 26,200 tons. However, with Japan's Arakawa Chemical Industry Co., Ltd., Seiko PMC Co., and Harima Chemical Co., Ltd. increasing investment in polyacrylamide production in China, it is expected that imports of paper-making polyacrylamide will decrease in the future, and China's imports of polyacrylamide in 2010 will decrease. It will be about 20,000 tons. China's polyacrylamide exports to South Africa, the United States, Australia and more than 70 countries and regions. With the rapid growth of polyacrylamide production, the export volume has been increasing year by year. From 2002 to 2006, the average annual growth rate of China's polyacrylamide exports was about 13%. In 2006, the export volume reached 27,500 tons. It is expected that China's exports of polyacrylamide will continue to increase in the future and will be approximately 38,000 tons in 2010

China's polyacrylamide is mainly used in the fields of oil extraction, water treatment and papermaking, and it is also used in the fields of textile, metallurgical sugar, medicine and other fields. In 2006, the apparent consumption of polyacrylamide was approximately 317,700 tons. Among them, the consumption of polyacrylamide in oil extraction accounted for about 78.5% of the total consumption, the water treatment field accounted for about 11%, the papermaking industry accounted for about 7.8%, textile and other fields accounted for about 2.7%.

In oil extraction, polyacrylamide can be used as thickening agent, stabilizer and sedimentation flocculant for drilling mud; adding polyacrylamide in tertiary oil recovery can increase oil displacement capability and increase recovery; Fracturing fluid additive, retarder, water and oil proportion control agent, temporary plugging agent, etc. Due to the gradual ageing of the oilfields that were exploited in China in the early stage, Daqing Oilfield and Shengli Oilfield have already used polyacrylamide on a large scale. In 2006, China consumed about 250,000 tons of polyacrylamide in oil extraction. It is expected that more fields will begin to use polyacrylamide in large quantities. The demand for polyacrylamide in this area will increase at a rate of about 5% from 2006 to 2010, and the demand will reach about 307,000 tons by 2010. Polyacrylamide is used as a flocculant in water treatment and mainly includes the use of activated carbon and the like in the treatment of raw water. It is used for coagulation and clarification of suspended particles in domestic water; it is used as sludge dewatering in sewage treatment; in industrial water treatment Used as an important formulation agent. At present, many large and medium-sized cities use polyacrylamide flocculant as a supplement when water supply is tight or water quality is poor. In wastewater treatment, polyacrylamide has become the main species of flocculant. In 2006, China consumed about 35,000 tons of polyacrylamide in water treatment. With the acceleration of the construction of water pollution control projects in China, the consumption of polyacrylamide will continue to increase in the future, and it is expected that the demand for polyacrylamide in this area will reach approximately 48,000 tons in 2010. Polyacrylamide is mainly used as a resident agent in the paper industry, and the cationic polyacrylamide has the best residence effect. China is a big country for paper production and consumption. In 2006, the output of paper and board reached 65 million tons, and the consumption of polyacrylamide was about 25,000 tons. It is estimated that by 2010 China's papermaking capacity will reach 94 million tons/year, and the demand for polyacrylamide in this area will reach about 40,000 tons.

In other areas, polyacrylamide can be used in textiles, mining, construction and other areas. In 2006, a total of 87,000 tons of polyacrylamide was consumed in these fields. It is expected that by 2010, the demand for polyacrylamide will reach 10,000 tons.

In summary, China's total demand for polyacrylamide will reach about 400,000 tons in 2010.
