Mercedes-Benz Atego truck with Allison transmission helps Lebanon weather the garbage crisis

Since the advantages of fully automatic transmissions in garbage vehicles are far superior to those of AMT transmissions and manual transmissions, both companies have designated garbage collection vehicles equipped with Allison transmissions to help solve the troublesome garbage problem in Lebanon. When RAMCO and City Blu were given a new government order to clear the streets, Mercedes equipped with Allison 3000 series gearboxes were introduced under the recommendation of local Mercedes-Benz dealers. The rubbish crisis in Lebanon made headlines for the first time in 2015, when a landfill in the village of Nameh was closed due to garbage spillage, only to realize that there was no spare space to transport the garbage. Garbage collection was suspended for up to five months, and rubbish was piled up on streets, mountainsides and beaches. The angry citizens held a campaign of "You stink!" and pressured the government to solve the problem. Eventually, the existing garbage collector is responsible for cleaning up the backlog and then appointing two new contractors for future garbage collection tasks. In the past two years, the new contractors RAMCO and City Blu have experienced extraordinary use of trucks equipped with Allison transmissions, while solving the garbage problem and alleviating the crisis.

City Blu is a joint venture between the diversified Lebanese company JV Moawwad Edde and the Bulgarian company Soriko. The collection of rubbish covers the Baabda district in western Lebanon, Aley, the fourth largest city in Lebanon, 10 miles southeast of Beirut, and south of Beirut. Forest-covered mountains and the Chouf region of the narrow coastal zone. City Blu chose to purchase 15 Mercedes-Benz Atego 1729 vehicles, which were assembled by a Lebanese OEM dealer with a chassis made in Brazil and a body made in Turkey, all equipped with an Allison 3000 series fully automatic transmission.

The road characteristics of the City Blu garbage collection area determine its choice of vehicle and gearbox. Steep uphill to an altitude of more than 1,000 meters (3,280 feet) requires a responsive engine and gearbox. In addition, the village's streets are slightly wider than trucks and require precise speed control and handling. The driver is pleased that the fully automatic transmission allows the steering wheel to be grasped with both hands without the need for distraction.

Claude Hanna, workshop manager at JV Moawwad Edde (City Blu), said, “We use two types of trucks for different areas of work. Mercedes-Benz large Actros trucks are used in wide street cities, while smaller Atego Trucks need to be powerful and compact, so the fully automatic transmission is essential for the Ategos to achieve fast power response, smooth shifting and good performance."

RAMCO is responsible for the collection of garbage in the city of Beirut and in the eastern part of Metn and the Keserwan area in the northeast. The company operates a total of 80 Mercedes-Benz Atego and Actros trucks, with a growing proportion of vehicles equipped with Allison transmissions, fully demonstrating that RAMCO can fully operate the Allison automatic transmission and AMT transmissions. Ayman Hilal, workshop manager at RAMCO, said, “We are very satisfied with these trucks. After two years of double-shift operation, the vehicles have set a record in normal running time. Drivers often switch between different brands and different models, most People say that vehicles with Allison transmissions perform better and respond more quickly than the same model with AMT or manual transmission."

Designed for mid-size commercial vehicles, the Allison 3000 Series transmissions offer wide speed ratios and narrow speed ratios as well as 7-speed options, making them suitable for a wide range of vehicle types and for efficient vehicle operation. An optional engine-driven power take-off interface (PTO) and integrated output retarder are available to enhance vehicle braking and reduce brake system wear. Allison's advanced fifth-generation electronic control system further enhances vehicle performance and provides pre-diagnostics.

The reducer is also called big head, reducer, and straight through. One of the chemical fittings is used for connection between two pipes with different diameters. According to the different shapes, they can be divided into two types: concentric small head and eccentric big head. The material of big head includes stainless steel big head, alloy steel, carbon steel big head.

Manufacturing standards can be divided into national standard, electric standard, shipping mark, chemical standard, water mark, American Standard, German standard, Japanese standard and Russian standard.

It can be divided into pushing, pressing, forging, casting and so on.

Connection mode: clamp (fast mounting), welding type and thread type.

Quality and use: the big head and outside with high grade polishing equipment to meet the surface precision requirements; this product is suitable for dairy, food, beer, beverage, pharmaceutical, cosmetics and other industrial fields.

Note that the small head is also suitable for environmental protection and dust removal industry, the pipe diameter is generally rolled and welded by steel plate, and the diameter is different.
Generally, hot rolled coil is applied very well, and it can save cost.
External processing: we can map and sample non-standard products according to user requirements.
