Soaking in water during operation, the absence of a proper grounding device can lead to serious electric shocks if a leakage occurs. In the first quarter of 2006, the Anhui Provincial Bureau of Quality Supervision conducted inspections in three cities—Lu'an, Chuzhou, and Chaohu. A total of 30 pump samples were tested, and only 18 passed the inspection, resulting in a pass rate of 60%. This means that 40% of the products failed to meet safety standards. The unqualified items primarily included improper grounding, incorrect power connections, and issues with external flexible cables and cords.
The test results revealed a clear difference in product quality between large and small enterprises. Large companies generally met safety requirements, while smaller businesses, especially those engaged in assembly work, showed significant shortcomings. Many of the unqualified pumps lacked a real grounding system, or the grounding components were just for show and provided no actual protection. In some cases, the grounding wire was not properly installed or connected at all.
According to national safety standards, power connections and external soft cables should be well-insulated, securely fixed, and properly clamped. However, during the inspection, 10 samples were found to have improperly secured cables. This could cause the cables to wear out due to tension, leading to exposed wires and potentially causing the pump casing to become electrified—posing a serious risk to users.
These findings highlight the importance of strict compliance with electrical safety regulations, especially for devices used in wet environments like water pumps. Consumers should always check for proper grounding and ensure that the equipment is manufactured by reputable suppliers who follow industry standards. Regular maintenance and inspections are also essential to prevent accidents and ensure safe operation.
