The Wenzhou Science and Technology Bureau recently announced that a COâ‚‚ enrichment and collection project, developed jointly by Wenzhou Dongfang Anticorrosive Equipment Co., Ltd. and several research institutes, has successfully undergone testing on the "Shenzhou VI," "God IV," and "God V" spacecraft. The company's advanced technology will now be integrated into future space missions. So far, the project has progressed smoothly, with all stages of development proceeding as planned.
This project is part of China's "863 Program," a key initiative in aerospace science and technology. It focuses on the development of a regenerative life support system, which is essential for long-duration human spaceflight. The COâ‚‚ collection and conversion device plays a critical role in this system, enabling the recycling of carbon dioxide exhaled by astronauts and the management of waste materials, thereby ensuring continuous life support during space missions. Currently, only a handful of countries, including the United States, Russia, and China, have mastered this crucial technology.
The technical requirements for CO₂ concentration and collection devices are extremely high, demanding both stability and strong material performance. Wenzhou Dongfang Anticorrosive Equipment Co., Ltd. spent five years developing this technology before achieving success. In 2001, the company officially partnered with the General Armament Department for the "God IV" unmanned spacecraft and the "God V" manned mission. The device met all technical specifications and was successfully applied in China’s space laboratory.
Today, Wenzhou Dongfang holds two authorized invention patents and three utility model patents, making it the only company in China capable of producing such advanced CO₂ collection systems. With its cutting-edge technology and proven reliability, the company continues to play a vital role in China’s growing space program.
