Toyota civilian sports car FT86 or will be made

Those who read "Initial D" will be impressed by Jay's car Toyota AE86. This popular Toyota high-performance sports car, AE86's replacement FT-86, is likely to be made by FAW Toyota. It is reported that Toyota hopes to use AE86's strong popularity to inspire a new generation of Chinese consumers, thus also blew into the clarion call of the Chinese civilian sports car market. However, the reporter confirmed with FAW Toyota that its relevant person in charge stated that “no external news” could be announced.

At the Shanghai Auto Show, Toyota displayed a high-profile concept of the FT86 Coupe, which is very close to the mass production car. The production car will be officially listed at the Tokyo Motor Show in December 2011. According to sources who declined to be named, the car will be introduced by FAW Toyota in 2012, and will be likely to be produced locally within a period of time. The FT-86 is a civilian sports car jointly developed by Toyota and the high-performance car brand Subaru. In terms of power, the Toyota FT-86 will use the FB20 engine released by Subaru in September 2010. After careful adjustment by Subaru, this engine has a maximum power of 147 kW and a maximum torque of 206 Nm. The six-speed manual gearbox and six-speed automatic transmission, the fastest acceleration in only 100 kilometers is only 7.7 seconds. In terms of body size, the height, width and height are 4,160 mm, 1,760 mm and 1,270 mm, respectively, and the wheelbase is 2,570 mm. In addition, the FT-86 with a monocoque construction has a very low gravity center, even lower than the Porsche Boxster.

The direct competitor of the FT-86 will be directed to Volkswagen Scirocco. According to estimates by overseas media, its price in the UK market is approximately 25,000 pounds (RMB 267,000).
