This is a report from Eric Haak about the 2-11 Alarm fire in Chicago on September 11, 2022. Here are some photos taken early Sunday morning. The fire was deeply seated in the basement of a 50x100 auto parts store. Despite the building being only 200 feet south of Engine 49’s station, the intense fire load in the basement forced crews to go on a defensive operation right from the start.
The fire was aggressive and showed no signs of backing down. Firefighters had to set up a defensive line quickly due to the heavy smoke and heat coming from the basement. It was clear that the structure wasn’t going to hold, so the focus shifted to protecting adjacent buildings and preventing the fire from spreading further.

These images show the intensity of the fire and the efforts of the firefighters who responded. The use of large apparatus like the ACP55 and Spartan units highlights the scale of the incident. It's always a reminder of how quickly a small fire can become a major emergency, especially when it starts underground.
