BorgWarner Launches Next-Generation EFR Turbo Technology

During the 2012 Las Vegas Motor Show, BorgWarner launched its next-generation EFR- 7163 turbocharger at the Las Vegas Convention Center , as well as its currently-launched EFR and AirWerks. Series turbocharger. The BorgWarner Next-Generation EFR-7163 turbocharger features innovative lightweight aluminum bearing rings and Francis turbines that combine the responsiveness of the B1 turbocharger with a compact footprint and high flow rates up to 550 horsepower.

Pete Kohler, chairman and general manager of BorgWarner Turbo Systems, said: "As the sole supplier of turbochargers for the IZOD Indy Series, BorgWarner was able to successfully launch the next generation of EFR turbo technology. For the new generation of turbochargers, we not only optimized the responsiveness, increased the output power, but also combined the best performance of the B1 and B2 turbochargers, compact in appearance, and powerful in horsepower. We are pleased that the Dario and Borg Warner Cups have also come to the Las Vegas Auto Show. The modified car show symbolizes achievement, competitiveness and cutting-edge technology. This is the driving force behind the spirit and innovation that BorgWarner pursues."

Dario Frangigny said: "I am looking forward to attending this year's modified auto show as a guest of BorgWarner. BorgWarner turbocharger adds enough horsepower to my Honda engine, enabling me to make this year's world It will be very interesting to win the famous Indianapolis Speedway.

BorgWarner's new generation of EFR-7163 turbochargers, powerful, compact, up to 550 horsepower, while also using a B1 structural frame, easy to fit in a smaller engine room. In the Indy Series, the new generation of EFR-7163 turbochargers was first exposed, and the aluminum bearing rings reduced the overall weight of the turbocharger by approximately 2 pounds. Fast response time, 63 mm Francis turbine, using lightweight Gamma-Ti materials and innovative geometric design, compared to the traditional radial flow turbine, not only rapid response time, increased turbine flow, but also greatly reduced inertia. In order to achieve a balance between rapid reaction at low engine speeds and high flow at high engine speeds, BorgWarner engineers optimized 71 mm (outer diameter) compressor wheels to enable the flow of conventional large size turbines . For added flexibility, the turbine casing is equipped with a V-type or T25 inlet adapter for engines using open manifolds and a T4 double scroll for engines with branch manifolds.

Las Vegas Auto Show Exhibitors can observe BorgWarner's next-generation EFR-7163 turbocharger, which will be fitted in a 2013 Ford F-150FX4 SuperCrew pickup truck with a 3.5-liter EcoBoost engine. And the 2009 Wrangler Jeep with the Cummins 6B engine.

In addition, BorgWarner also launched the EFR series of turbochargers and AirWerks turbochargers that have been put on the market at the show. The former uses the Gamma-Ti turbo technology that has been applied in major events and can reach 225 to 1000 horsepower. These include the S and K series of products that have been used in the races and can reach 120 to 1700 hp.
