Chen Zhangliang, vice chairman of the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, recently visited Jinguang Farm to gain insight into the operations of the region's first world-class Case 7000 sugar cane combine harvester. During his visit, he expressed high expectations for the development of sugarcane production and the mechanization of harvesting in the area.
In January this year, the state-owned Jinguang Farm under the Agricultural Reclamation Bureau of the Autonomous Region invested over 8 million yuan to purchase the most advanced Case 7000 sugar cane combine harvester from the U.S. company Case. According to reports, this machine can harvest 15 acres per hour and process up to 2,000 tons of sugarcane daily—equivalent to the work of 2,000 laborers working around the clock. Compared to traditional manual harvesting, mechanical harvesting reduces costs by approximately 7.71 yuan per ton and significantly improves efficiency.
The use of sugarcane machinery brings four major benefits to sugar mills: first, it enables continuous feeding; second, it reduces unloading time; third, it eases the burden on sugar-processing equipment; and fourth, it ensures better freshness of the sugarcane, leading to higher sugar extraction rates.
After listening to a detailed introduction from the company’s representative, Chen Zhangliang emphasized that Guangxi has always led the country in both sugarcane planting area and sugar production. The region has more than 1,300 mu of sugarcane land, with about 20 million people involved in sugarcane farming. Mechanized harvesting is urgently needed in the area. As the first mechanized sugarcane harvester in the district, this new machine has been warmly welcomed by local farmers and represents a significant breakthrough for the region’s agricultural development.
He pointed out that the machine not only lowers harvesting costs and boosts productivity but also helps free up labor and increase farmers’ income. Chen stressed that the key to agricultural progress lies in mechanization, which paves the way for industrialization and sustainable growth in the sector. This investment marks an important step forward in modernizing Guangxi’s agriculture and enhancing its competitiveness in the national and global markets.
