This just happened a couple of hours ago in Glenview. Around 2 PM, emergency services were called to a mobile home fire located in the Sunset Village Mobile Home Park on Waukegan Road. When the Glenview Fire Department arrived, they found a double-wide mobile home fully engulfed in flames. According to reports from the Chicago Tribune, a woman in her 50s was pulled out of the burning home after suffering from smoke inhalation and burns. She was quickly transported to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge, where her condition was reported as stable but not life-threatening. Unfortunately, two cats perished inside the home.
The images from the scene, captured by Tim Olk, show the intense efforts of firefighters as they worked to extinguish the blaze. Glenview firefighters can be seen preparing to enter the home for the overhaul phase, ensuring the fire was completely under control. Northfield and Morton Grove also sent additional resources to assist, highlighting the severity of the situation.
Chief Wayne Globerger mentioned that due to the limited access and the undersized hydrants in the area, firefighters had to pump water directly from their trucks and extend a hose nearly 800 feet to connect to a hydrant in the nearby Valley Lo subdivision. This challenge required additional support from neighboring departments, including an extra engine from Glenview and Northfield, simply to manage the water supply and manpower needed.
One particularly striking image shows Northfield firefighters working in the rear of the mobile home after the fire had been brought under control. Another captures Northfield Deputy Chief Tom Burke taking a moment to switch out his breathing apparatus while continuing operations. These photos give a glimpse into the intense conditions faced by first responders.
As the community comes together to support those affected, it’s clear that the quick actions of neighbors and firefighters alike played a crucial role in saving lives. The incident serves as a reminder of both the dangers of careless smoking and the importance of having reliable firefighting infrastructure in place. Tim Olk generously shared multiple photos from the scene, providing a visual narrative of the event. His images capture not only the devastation but also the dedication and hard work of the firefighters as they comb through the wreckage. One final image shows a Glenview firefighter rinsing down parts of the interior, marking the final stages of the operation.
Let’s hope for a speedy recovery for the woman involved and continued support for the Sunset Village community.
