The Barrington Fire Department was called to a garage fire at 23170 N. Church in Barrington around 9:30 PM on Wednesday. When the first responders, Barrington Engine 363, arrived, they found a fully involved fire in the attached garage. The scene quickly escalated as Lake Zurich Engine 2 made a u-turn in the dead-end cul-de-sac and laid 400 feet of 5-inch supply line to the corner. A Barrington tanker dropped its portable tank, allowing crews to begin fighting the fire with two lines through separate doors of the house.
The home was built on a hill, with a one-story front and a two-story structure on the side, which complicated access and operations. As the fire spread, Barrington requested a MABAS Box Alarm, bringing additional resources from Wauconda, Fox River Grove, and East Dundee. Palatine sent Truck 85, while engines from Hoffman Estates, Palatine Rural, and Carpentersville also arrived. Rolling Meadows provided an ambulance backup, and Cary Squad 255 set up a light tower for better visibility at the scene.
Barrington Engine 3 operated from the cul-de-sac, supplying three lines in total. Multiple companies worked together to contain the blaze, with Carpentersville crews tackling hot spots in the destroyed garage. The rear of the house suffered extensive damage, though it wasn’t immediately visible from the street. A family dog was lost in the fire, but all residents escaped safely.
By 10:30 PM, the Box Alarm was lifted, and the fire was under control. Larry Shapiro, a local photographer, arrived after the flames were extinguished and captured several images of the aftermath. His photos show the intensity of the fire, the efforts of emergency responders, and the damage left behind. More photos can be viewed [here](#).
