According to ABC News, a tragic event unfolded early this morning when two firefighters were fatally shot and two others were injured during an emergency response in Webster. The incident occurred as crews were dealing with a house fire on Lake Road, and the shooting forced them to temporarily stop efforts to contain the blaze.
Authorities at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester confirmed that two individuals were admitted in "guarded condition" following gunshot wounds. Local media reports indicate that the fire eventually spread to two neighboring homes, though it's still unclear whether anyone was injured inside those structures.
The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office has stated that firefighting operations resumed before 10 a.m., after the initial threat had been addressed. A SWAT team was deployed to the area, and parts of the neighborhood were evacuated as a precaution. One local resident, Michael Damico, shared his concerns with the Democrat and Chronicle, noting that some people had already lost their homes in previous fires and were visibly upset about the situation.
