China's research and development success of new motor speed control system

In recent developments, a groundbreaking motor speed control system has emerged—known as the switch reluctance motor speed control system. This innovative technology is designed to handle frequent changes in speed and load while achieving a power saving rate of 5% or more. Recently, it successfully passed expert evaluation, marking a significant milestone in China's motor speed regulation technology. The expert appraisal panel, including renowned figures such as Yao Fusheng from the Chinese Academy of Engineering and Professor Li Fahai from Tsinghua University, praised the system’s technical performance, stating that it has reached international advanced levels. They emphasized the need for further design optimization, cost reduction, and increased promotion efforts to help the technology gain broader market acceptance and achieve large-scale application sooner. Electric motors are the most critical electricity-consuming equipment in industrial and commercial settings. In China, small and medium-sized motors alone account for over 60% of the nation's total electricity consumption. Currently, variable frequency speed control remains the dominant technology in the market, but it comes with high energy usage. Switch reluctance motor technology, which has been a focal point in modern electric drive systems, has seen research efforts in China since the 1980s. However, progress has been slow due to various technical and economic challenges. After more than three years of dedicated research and development by Shandong Kehui Electric Co., Ltd. and Shandong University of Technology, the switch reluctance motor speed control system has now been successfully implemented in companies like Shandong Xinhua Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. and Zibo Thermal Power Co., Ltd. It has also passed comprehensive performance tests by the National Center for Quality Supervision of Small and Medium-Sized Motors and was officially recognized by the National Development and Reform Commission as a key energy-saving product during the "Eleventh Five-Year Plan" period. This breakthrough not only highlights the potential of switch reluctance motor technology but also signals a promising future for energy-efficient motor systems in China. As industries continue to seek sustainable solutions, this innovation could play a vital role in reducing energy consumption and supporting national energy-saving goals.
