Chen Shujin, vice president and secretary-general of the China National Textile and Apparel Council, has positioned the China Textile Industry Association as a key service provider over the years. He emphasized that since the dissolution of the former Ministry of Textiles in 1999, the association has taken on the responsibility of ensuring the stability and growth of the textile sector. Chen categorized the association’s service activities into two main types: guided services and field-based services.
Guided services involve organizing and publishing the "Eleventh Five-Year Plan" for the textile industry, outlining technological development, analyzing economic performance, establishing early warning systems for chemical fiber production, forecasting trends in textile and apparel products, guiding investment directions, and promoting self-discipline among members. These efforts aim to align the industry with global trends, national economic goals, and the broader interests of the sector.
Field-based services include providing consulting to companies across different regions, organizing domestic and international exhibitions to help businesses expand their markets, supporting the establishment of textile industry clusters, assisting in industrial upgrades, conducting training programs, and facilitating technical exchanges. The association also helps with standard-setting, information system construction, and resolving trade disputes—offering direct, practical support to the industry.
Wu Rongkang, executive vice president of the China Coal Industry Association, believes that for industry associations to be effective, companies must feel that these organizations are genuine "homes" for them. In recent years, the coal association has helped member companies develop strategies, solve technical issues, improve technology, and share market-related information. It has also worked to resolve economic conflicts between industries and address challenges such as talent recruitment, safe investment, and the transformation of aging mining areas. These efforts have earned widespread recognition from members.
Wu highlighted several principles the association follows when representing member interests:
First, it adheres to national guidelines and policies. The association regularly submits reports, letters, and policy recommendations to the State Council and relevant ministries, addressing issues like unreasonable burdens, increased costs, and the need to regulate the mining market. It also advocates for fair coal price adjustments, all while complying with national laws and regulations.
Second, it operates according to the principles of market economics. Beyond raising concerns, the association offers solutions based on market rules, helping enterprises shift from outdated growth models to more sustainable practices.
Third, it prioritizes the long-term sustainability of the coal industry. The association refuses to support any requests that do not meet safety, environmental, or industrial restructuring standards. From the outset, it ensures that all operations—such as mine order rectification, resource reviews, and system certifications—are conducted properly, maintaining high standards for the industry's future.
