The Suzhou Electric Machining Machine Tool Research Institute, a subsidiary of SINOMACH, has recently initiated a groundbreaking research project focused on the development and industrialization of high-performance slow-wire electroforming machine tools. Once successfully completed, this project is expected to significantly elevate the technical standards of China's CNC slow-wire cutting machines, offering advanced and essential equipment for the mold manufacturing industry.
Traditional fast-wire cutting machines, while widely used, lack the precision required by modern mold production. In contrast, slow-wire cutting technology offers superior performance, with higher efficiency, greater accuracy, and improved surface quality. It can operate 2-3 times faster than fast-wire systems, achieving micron-level precision. The surface finish produced is exceptional, meeting the stringent demands of today’s high-precision mold manufacturing. Currently, no other technology can match its capabilities.
Suzhou Electric Machining’s slow-wire project focuses on several key innovations, including a narrow pulse width nanosecond high-peak current (over 1000A) that ensures efficient processing without resistance or electrolysis. It also features an ultra-narrow pulse power supply for micro-finishing, achieving extremely low surface roughness (tens of nanoseconds). The system integrates a six-axis CNC with a four-axis control system, featuring an A-axis, linear servo motors, and a precision immersion mechanism. The A-axis is integrated with the linear axis to expand processing capabilities, making the system highly versatile and technologically advanced.
In recent years, Suzhou Electric Machining has invested heavily in developing a next-generation slow-wire cutting machine. The company has mastered all core technologies, holds full intellectual property rights, and has received positive evaluations from internationally recognized experts. This lays a solid foundation for further research and the development of even more advanced slow-wire cutting machines.
With growing demand for low-speed wire-cutting machines and rapid growth in the need for high-speed models, the application of high-end CNC wire-cutting machines is expanding across industries such as aerospace, defense, automotive, and IT. These machines play a crucial role in processing special materials and complex shapes. However, only a limited number of domestic manufacturers can produce cost-effective mid-range slow-wire cutting machines, while high-end models are still largely imported.
