The three mining centers at the Gudong Plant of Shengli Oilfield have recently made a breakthrough by successfully developing balanced low shear cut-off regulating valves. This innovation enables the simultaneous injection of polymer solutions into multiple wells using polycondensation pumps, significantly improving operational efficiency and reducing downtime.
One of the main challenges in polymer injection is the high shear loss caused by mechanical stress during transportation. To prevent this, ball valves must be either fully open or fully closed when handling polymer media. Any partial opening can lead to severe degradation of the polymer, reducing its effectiveness. As a result, traditional systems are limited to injecting one well at a time, which slows down the overall process.
To address this issue, the Gudong team introduced a conical design for the valve, combined with a surfacing alloy material at the seal between the valve core and seat. This not only enhances resistance to wear and corrosion but also ensures excellent sealing performance under high-pressure conditions. Additionally, the valve's drive system incorporates step-down technology, allowing for precise and flexible control over the flow rate.
Testing results show that the new regulating valve offers high accuracy in adjusting the mother liquor concentration, easy on-site operation, and an impressive viscosity retention rate. When the valve is fully open, at 2/3, 1/2, or 1/4 opening, the viscosity retention rate remains above 98%, demonstrating its superior performance.
This advancement has been officially recognized, with the regulating valve now holding a national patent. The development marks a significant step forward in polymer injection technology, offering a reliable and efficient solution for enhanced oil recovery operations.
