Ishikawajima, Japan, launched a 3,000-ton boom large crane ship

Xinhua News Agency, Tokyo, September 18 (Reporter Chen Rui) — Japan’s Ishikawajima Heavy Industries (IHI) has recently finished building a massive 3,000-ton boom crane ship for Shentian Construction, a leading Japanese engineering firm. This new vessel represents a significant advancement in marine construction technology and is expected to enhance the efficiency of large-scale offshore projects. The crane ship features an innovative steel beam structure that replaces the traditional cabinet design with a more lightweight and durable boom system. This design change reduces the overall weight by 60%, making the vessel more efficient and easier to handle during operations. The ship measures 105 meters in length and 46 meters in width, though it is not self-propelled, meaning it will rely on tugboats for mobility. It is specifically designed for tasks such as constructing large marine structures, installing harbor equipment, and supporting other critical infrastructure projects at sea. This development marks another milestone for IHI, which has been a key player in Japan's heavy industry sector. In 2024, the company is set to deliver a total of 45 crane ships, including 30 domestically and 15 for international clients. This growth reflects the rising demand for specialized maritime equipment, especially as global infrastructure projects continue to expand. With its advanced design and improved performance, this new crane ship is well-positioned to meet the evolving needs of the marine construction industry.
